Ian McDiarmid will not be in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
No hope for Emperor cameo in Rogue One
Ian McDiarmid, who played Palpatine in Episodes I-III, V, and VI, confirmed at Amsterdam Comic-Con (around the 6:23 mark) that he is not involved with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in any way.
While this might be disappointing, it’s not entirely surprising. Palpatine would have little to do with this story as we already know Darth Vader is pivotal to the film. If Palpatine doesn’t have to get his hands dirty, he won’t. It would have been cool to see McDiarmid reprise his role, even if it was just via hologram. I highly doubt Lucasfilm would hire another actor to play Palpatine so we can pretty much rule him out of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
