inspect the fruit
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

When speaking of good trees bearing only good fruit and bad trees only bearing bad fruit, and thus a person being known by the fruit he bears…you need to inspect the fruit down to the core! Fruit is not rated according to its surface. Mold can be scraped off and unkempt hair slicked back.
Bad people can do good things, but you need to check their motives. Are they doing these things to further glorify God…or themselves?
A piece of fruit can look totally fine on the outside, but the inside can still be rotten.
