“put through the wringer” – Job 1:21
“He said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.'” (See Job 1:21) So the man lost his flocks, his servants and his kids in one day yet he didn’t curse God or throw a pity part – and the man had every right to throw that party! However, he wasn’t like most of us, he knew that, in all actuality, nothing was really is. It’s all on loan from God. How often do we lose just a little something and freak out? How often are we burdened just a little bit and we go berzerk? Job had the life. Wealth, family, land. He was certainly blessed by God, but he handled losing everything like a champ. God gave the devil cart blanche to bulldoze Job’s life because He knew His servant was righteous and valued Him above all else. The idea that satan was able to wield that much juice – fires from the sky to consume flocks, winds to bring down the walls of a house, and control of people to rally them to attack – is crazy scary to think about. So, evil is allowed to put us through the wringer. It’s up to each one of us to come out of it clean and dry.
