Funko Reveals New York Comic-Con Star Wars Exclusives!
New York Comic-Con is just a few weeks away and Funko, always the king of con exclusives, has been steadily revealing five waves of exclusives all week. Today, Funko saved the best for last, revealing two Star Wars exclusives and an epic Indiana Jones exclusive.
The first Star Wars POP! revealed is Bistan from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
You might recall that Bistan is the gunner of the U-Wing and a new species called the Lakaru. According to Entertainment Weekly, we might not get to learn too much more about him in Rogue One:
His real name: Bistan. He’s the gunner on a new starship known as the U-Wing, a sort of gunship and troop transport. “It’s not necessarily a character that we get to know, but I think he has a very memorable, iconic look,” said Edwards. “[He’s] one of my favorites. I can’t give away what happens to him.”
You can see from the glam shot above that Bistan has a “limited edition” sticker, which likely means that it will be a shared exclusive. Bistan is rumored to be an FYE exclusive; however, Funko will not officially reveal its shared exclusives until October 6th.
Funko’s second Star Wars NYCC exclusive has already caused both uproar and excitement: Qui-Gon Jinn.
Many fans have been clamoring for prequel trilogy-focused POPS! We know that more PT POPS! are definitely on the way, and it seems that this exclusive is the kickoff for that line. GameStop created a bit of a furor last week among collectors by canceling pre-orders it had taken a few months ago for a Qui-Gon POP! and notifying customers that Funko had canceled production on the item. I didn’t believe that Funko wouldn’t make a Qui-Gon Jinn POP! and I don’t believe that GameStop was ever supposed to take those pre-orders.
Now that we see it, the figure looks absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, many collectors are distressed because unlike Bistan, this POP! has a sticker that limits this to 2,000 pieces. Typically, these types of number limited POPS! are not shared exclusives and carry a hefty price tag in the after-market. My sense (hope?) is that there will be a general release Qui-Gon Jinn. The character is too beloved and too critical to the Star Wars mythos to limit to a limited number con exclusive. But for now, there is no additional information regarding that possibility.
Finally, although not Star Wars-related, Funko revealed another exclusive that is sure to interest many Star Wars fans: an Indiana Jones POP! Ride.
This collectible is absolutely drool-worthy. For those who don’t know, Funko currently has a limited license to produce Indiana Jones POPS! related to the Disneyland Parks ride, and not the movie franchise as a whole. That’s why its offerings thus far have all been exclusives (including the SDCC exclusive and the Disney Parks exclusive). Each one of the previous two Indiana Jones POPS! have been highly sought-after and demand quite a price tag in the after-market. This POP! Ride is sure to be the same.
If you are going to NYCC and you want a shot at one of these POPs!, be sure to read through “Everything you need to know about Funko at NYCC!” From my experience with Funko at cons, the booth is incredibly popular (with good reason) and it’s important to know what to expect. Good luck to those attending; don’t forget me if you get a shot at Qui-Gon and/or Indy. May the Force be with you!
