Latino Review has heard some interesting information about Laura Dern’s character in Star Wars: Episode VIII. It appears she is in charge of some kind of larger ship and has rank on Poe Dameron. However, Poe is forced to take matters into his own hands:

In one of the scenes shot in this stage, a rag-tag group of Resistance fighters have seen some battle. Cut and bruised, they and Poe Dameron are on this ship when Laura Dern, playing some sort of captain or officer. She tells the fighters that they are the last of the rebellion/resistance (I’m unclear on the exact phrasing of the line, so no capitalizing the Resistance) and that Princess Leia has been gravely injured and is receiving medical attention.

Poe then points his blaster at Dern and they remove the crew/techs from their stations. It almost makes me wonder if there’s some problems with faltering resistance and the remnants of the republic?

The take away:

Dern’s character believes they’re the last of the resistance force.
It sounds like her take is wrong and Poe is forced to take matters into his own hands.
Leia is badly injured but with a doctor.

There have been a lot of rumors about Dern’s character but this is one of the first that doesn’t sound like wish-casting (as in I wish she was Rey’s mom or Luke’s wife and so on).
