There is a report that Alden Ehrenreich is lined up to star in three Star Wars films According to the Metro. Those types of contracts appear to be pretty common as an insurance policy for the studio to make sure they don’t have to renegotiate with the actors later on after they’ve “blown up” from being in a big part.

“Speaking to NY Daily News, an insider said: ‘There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. ‘Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.

The Metro‘s source goes on and states Ehrenreich could be in for several Star Wars movies:

‘They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies. They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies,’ they added.”

It seems unlikely there will be three Han Solo films upfront, but given time, the prospect isn’t off the wall. However, that doesn’t have to equate to a Solo trilogy. If the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story cameo ends up panning out, for instance, Ehrenreich will have done two out of the three rumored films he’s supposed to star in. The other alternative is he really did sign for three Han Solo films. Disney has stated in the past they have no plans for sequels to the standalone films but if one of these films is insanely huge or has a breakout character, they would be crazy to not make more films with that character or cast.

Films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story exist because they’re predicated upon a premise: a heist to steal the Death Star plans. Generally there would not be much opportunity for a sequel on a film like that because once they blow up the Death Star it is done (yeah, they made a second one but c’mon!). Most of these films probably won’t warrant a sequel but the characters still exist in that cinematic universe and it would be crazy to not see them again in other films. Hell, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe some actors have been in nearly a dozen films at this point.

According to Variety, actors that appear in Star Wars films for the first time are given a very small amount of money. But returning for more films increases the potential for larger rewards. In other words, if your character rocks, down the road there could be some serious money involved. Variety wrote back in December 2015:

 Disney made a decision in 2014 prior to casting the new roles to create a “legacy pay scale” intended for talent like Ford, Fisher and Hamill, who had previously been a part of the “Star Wars” universe, and general pay scale for actors that would be appearing for the first time.

If that information is accurate it would seem that appearing in a film after the initial contract could yield great rewards for someone like Ehrenreich that plays a central character in the lore of the galactic civil war.

Johnny Grasso of “Rogue Won: A Star Wars Podcast for Winners” sent us an article from the New York Daily News also stating that Ehrenreich has been signed for three movies. The most interesting part to us pertains to Steven Spielberg:

“The L.A.-raised Ehrenreich–who was discovered by Steven Spielberg at a bat mitzvah–beat out thousands of hopefuls to play the space cowboy made famous by Harrison Ford.”

It is no wonder Ehrenreich was the first person to try out and the guy that got the job. A recommendation from Spielberg can’t hurt at all. His first two jobs were for Francis Ford Coppola. Culturally, he seems right for the part, right? Anyhow, two big publications are essentially saying the same thing: Ehrenreich is contracted for three films.
