Bob Iger confirms plans for Star Wars films past 2021
Today Bob Iger spoke to The Wrap where he discussed plans for future Star Wars films. He also confirms that their is a writer attached to the 2020 Star Wars film (most likely “A Star Wars Story” film).
“I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out — well, we reviewed — the Star Wars plans that we have ’til 2020,” Iger said. “We have movies in development for Star Wars ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond.”
The biggest question for me is what will come after the 2020 film. We still have two more films in the sequel trilogy and three anthology films to come. This isn’t surprising news by any regard; however it’s nice to get official word on future films. i09 points out that Simon Kinberg (Star Wars Rebels) was attached as a writer for a future Star Wars film, possibly the 2020 film. I would imagine the 2020 film is the long-rumored Boba Fett anthology film, but you never know when plans could change. The next Star Wars film to hit theaters of course is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits December 16th. I honestly think we can accept a lot of future film news at Celebration Orlando in April, as well as D23 in July.
