Casting for young Lando in the young Han Solo: A Star Wars Story film is underway?
Umberto Gonzalez has been on fire since he started at The Wrap recently. Today he has broken that they are casting for a young Lando Calrissian for the Han Solo standalone film. This young Lando will star next to Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo in the first Star Wars spin-off to feature already established characters as the leads.
The Cloud City cassanova was originally played by Billy Dee Williams, and the current code name in casting circles for young Lando is “Chance” — perhaps a reference to the character’s appreciation of cards and dice.
During the ramp up for The Force Awakens Lawrence Kasdan made it clear that we had not seen the last of Lando Calrissian. So far with Star Wars: Episode VIII there hasn’t been any indication Billy Dee Williams is back or around those sets. This makes a lot of sense on that front.
I personally wouldn’t want to see a young Han Solo in action without Lando Calrissian as their friendship and past is what is interesting. The Empire Strikes Back alludes to this rocky and tumultuous friendship but the actions of Lando to make things right after The Empire Strikes Back says that these two really do care about one another and could be the heart of this film.
