Daredevil had a shot at being Han in Han Solo: A Star Wars Story!
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Daredevil star Charlie Cox shared that he believes he blew an audition to play Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars Story film.
“I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot— and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”
I’m a huge fan of Netflix’s Daredevil show. I think it’s easily one of the best live-action superhero interpretations to date. Having said that, I’m not sure Cox would have landed the role even if he…you know…didn’t try to play blind Han Solo. Cox is fantastic as “The Man Without Fear” but I’m not sure he has the swagger and raw charisma to fill Harrison Ford’s considerable shoes.
When you further consider that Cox is 33 years old, while the eventual pick, Alden Ehrenreich, is only 26, I’m not sure Cox was really too old for the part. Still, it’s certainly an interesting “what if”. You also have to praise Cox for being so into his Daredevil role that he has a hard time acting like a character who can see! Wonder what he’s like with friends and family now.
