There’s rumor that Disney may buy 21st Century Fox, who owns the Fox Fanfare at the beginning of A New Hope (Polygon)
Polygon: The rumor that Disney might acquire 21st Century Fox’s TV and film divisions has excited lots of sci-fi fans, the biggest constituency being Marvel’s. Such a deal might finally join the X-Men cinematic arc, whose rights Fox controls, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe controlled by Disney. And that’s wonderful.
For me, as a Star Wars fan, it could mean that series, by Episode IX in 2019, might again open the way God intended it: With the 20th Century Fox Fanfare with Cinemascope Extension. J.J. Abrams might use a different title card, might arrange the opening credits differently. But Disney would own that song and once again Star Wars movies could begin with it.
Kathleen Kennedy confirms more films on the Star Wars Show (slashfilm.com)
Slashfilm: We’re a little over a month away from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, episode 8 in the ever-expanding Star Wars saga. There’s another core “Skywalker Saga” film planned after that, the currently untitled Episode IX. But if you thought that would be the end of the main Star Wars franchise, you’re mistaken. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed that the Star Wars franchise will continue on past Episode IX, and keep the adventures of the new characters going. There will be future Star Wars films for quite some time. In fact, Kennedy says they’re “looking at the next 10 years.”
