Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Hover Tank Trooper description & sketch!
Below is a design and potential setting from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Please do not share this information openly on social media and spoil anyone that does not wish to be spoiled. Be cool!
Recently I got a pretty solid look at the new Hover Tank Trooper from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. What I saw was an actual costume from the film so I assume what I glimpsed is what we will see on screen, provided it isn’t cut or something like that. I found the design to be really effective and I look forward to seeing it on screen.
I don’t have a lot of information on what the Hover Tank Troopers do. Do they pilot the tanks or march beside them? One set at Pinewood Studios we discussed before, had a crashed X-wing, and I have reason to believe the Hover Tank(s) travels along this street in the film at one point. An extra from the film also mentioned the tank once before. From the various photos I have glimpsed of that set, there were only classic Stormtroopers in the style of A New Hope on those sandy (beach?) streets. This makes me guess the Hover Tank Troopers drive the vehicles mainly.
The visor of the new trooper really reminds me of the Clones from Attack of the Clones, but the visor doesn’t go down in a complete “T” like the Fett inspired helmet would. It has two really large aerators that kind of remind me of hand held vacuums (however this design does not suck). The armor itself is really very much in the spirit of the Scout Trooper but not identical or as close as the Scarab Trooper’s armor in that respect (not to mention this trooper is white and that one is yellow). The cranium of the helmet reminded me of the classic A New Hope Stormtrooper in shape.
Here is my sketch I did immediately after seeing the piece. Forgive me not making it better, but I assume you would rather see this now than next month:
As it would turn out, you can see a version of this trooper from Star Wars: The Force Awakens concept art seen on the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray. While this concept is different from the Rogue One piece I saw, it is clearly the inspiration for the new trooper:
Check back very soon for more Rogue One: A Star Wars Story information we’re hearing from our sources. There’s more interesting stuff on the way!
Update here is a look at McQuarrie’s Cylon sketch from Battlestar Galactic that seems to share some similar qualities:
