Disney XD has released three character descriptions for Darth Maul (or just Maul, formally Darth), Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Ezra Bridger. This gives us clues as to what Maul may be up to this season.

“To complete a task he should have done years ago.” That is the most interesting detail we have heard regarding Maul’s return. I think two things could happen: Maul may be seeking revenge against Darth Sidious and Darth Vader; however, I think it’s more likely that Maul is going after a old foe, one that started his downfall. That is, of course, none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi. We have seen Maul torture Kenobi in every way possible in The Clone Wars, but now he may attempt to kill him. The big duel that was teased throughout Season 2 was Ahsoka vs. Vader. What if this season’s big duel is Obi-Wan vs. Maul? That would be pretty epic and a great way to end Maul’s story.

So Thrawn’s description is the same thing we have been hearing. It’s just so cool to see Thrawn in canon.

In Ezra’s description, it’s revealed that he is 17 in Season 3. When we started the series I believe he was 15. This would place the timeline about two years before the battle of Yavin, which means don’t expect a Rogue One tie-in until Season 5 of Star Wars Rebels. I’m really digging Ezra’s new look. I can’t wait for the season to start on September 24th. I think we are in for a ride this season.
