When ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens began, we at MakingStarWars.net saw a huge opportunity to do some good.  For The Force Awakens we joined an affiliate program. Through that affiliation, and with your help, we were able to rustle up some extra cash to donate to a great cause! So with a lot of (probably annoying) tweets and pleas, and you lovely people visiting MakingStarWars.net/tickets, we sold over 3,500 tickets to The Force Awakens!

Our goal was to sell a lot more tickets but with such a small commission per ticket, it became clear it was not going be as charitable as we had hoped. We attempted to work with the ticket vendor to hopefully match what our community earned but they stalled out until the film’s release to let us know they were not interested in a charitable endeavor at that time. After that we didn’t press the issue as much with promotion and decided to match what was earned upon the release ourselves. Jason and I decided to personally match the commission made from each ticket sale, and we made a donation to UNICEF and Force For Change in the amount of $750.

Thank you again to everyone who bought tickets through us and helped make this possible! When we take on this adventure again for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Episode VIII we will have a better solution, we promise. We have some time to find a partner for this next time and as a community will will continue to pursue our mutual passion of watching of Star Wars films while hopefully making the Starship Earth a little better in the process.
