Updated: J. J. Clarifies comments that Rey’s parents aren’t even in Star Wars: The Force Awakens!
Rey’s parents are not in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to J.J. Abrams. That’s right: all the theories and all that jazz have been for nothing because they didn’t tell us until just now that Rey is not related to anyone in the film at all!
Abrams says:
Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII. So I cannot possibly in this moment tell you who they are. This is all I will say. It is something Rey thinks about too.
This all comes from Emily Chi on Twitter who tweeted this video from the Tribeca Performing Arts Center:

How about that? Maybe Star Wars: Episode VIII will answer the question about who Rey’s parents are/were. After all, they are either the galaxy’s worst parents or they’re part of something larger that made Rey end up abandoned in the first place. I have been hearing that shot of Kylo in the flashback takes place when Rey is a teenager as well.
